Task 9 - All tied up

Belts can be an accessory which ties a look together, however Habbo itself is severely lacking when it comes to belt designs... Which is why for this task Harry has spoilt us all with a suite of custom designed belts for you to play with. These belts should serve as a point of inspiration for your look and your completed outfit must showcase the belt on your avatar.

Below are 10 belts for you to choose from, however there can be no double ups. Please message me your top 3 preferred belts (in order) and I will confirm which one you have been assigned. To give the underdogs a chance, those with the lowest average score across the competition still in the game will be given first preference, while those with higher averages will be last. See the current averages on your left. If preferences are not locked in within 24 hours, I will allocate a belt for you regardless of rank.

After 24 hours and at any point

during the week you may attempt to claim a second belt. You MUST DM me about it otherwise it is not valid as I will not be accepting double ups of belt choices. Once claimed you are locked in to that choice. Players will be notified of claimed belts

How you choose to display your belt (ie placement/pose) is up to you - you can choose to keep the same alignment as shown in the samples below, or go off script and do your own thing with the item. Recolouring adjustments are also allowed for the belt.

You are entitled to one photoshopped preview of the design with the belt added by either myself or Harry, however you may also choose to photoshop these yourself  Mockups for feedback or preview. Mockups for feedback have a lockout 24 hours before the deadline.

A note from Elysse:

Before I even begin my judging this week, I need to congratulate you all on making it this far. With only 4 players left in the game, it really is anyones game. This weeks task is both interesting and difficult to judge, simply because you all had to design for such varied aesthetics, using the chosen belt to inspire the outfit while incorporating it. I love what is on display this week. It shows versatility and different points of view, which is totally what will make for interesting finals collections (soon!).

Critiques

The colour blocking on this look is amazing. I love how you took this bag, decided it would serve as inspiration through colour, and then created a very panelled outfit for your model to wear. It makes me think of how you construct your jackets in real life with segments so I think this design rings very true to you as a designer even if it’s not how you usually showcase your outfits in PR. As everyone knows, simplicity/minialism isn’t my forte, and I think you have done it justice here, using layers that are so subtle that you don’t even realise how much detail has gone into the outfit as a whole. The way and the use of bright yellow is so smart that it just draws the eye instantly, while your complimenting colours creates a very 90’s style aesthetic, which I think also works with the shoulder bag. Nice work.

Ooolala, this is splendid! This design tickles a certain part of my brain, in the most satisfying way possible. You didn't really create anything new. But what you did was go so simple, and so daring, that when paired with this bag it completely comes alive. I don't think anyone could have created a better pairing to this belt, I also cannot fault this at all. :)

The layers on this are the first thing that stands out, they are impeccable! And so much detail... in everything. The headpiece is such a smart way of incorporating this belt, I wouldn't have thought of this possibility at all! It kinda looks like a diaper but I don't care because it's, fashion. Great dynamic pose to show off your outfit too! The fabric of your outfit is so well-constructed, almost like you hand-made it. Only negative I guess I have is that I think I do prefer the outfit to your "belt" headpiece.

There is so much detail in this head piece, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I love the way the black from what I think are scifi buns? blend through the white layers of the swords, beard, cranial tentacle, and starfish crown. I did receive a shade submission this week however stating that it looks very similar to Ramonda’s headpiece from week two… And they aren’t wrong, however I do like how these items blend together to create an illusion of one black and white piece being encapsulated by the swords. Anyway, perhaps there is some unintended inspiration being drawn from there, but just as I liked hers in week two, I like yours in week nine. You told me that the inspiration for your outfit was to create something that was textured and artistcly unstable, and I think you did that. While your inspiration is not directly correlated to the belt, I think you took the idea of what it could do and experimented with your headpiece before deciding that it worked and building an outfit for your model to match the style that it had and I think your dress does just that. The off centred balance of the outfit carried from the headpiece to the dress is very clever, and the texture shines through. Anyway nice work and I’ll end here because yours is the longest crit I’ve written this week.

To me this outfit screams a bit more 80’s glam rock. There is a theatricality in this design which I could imagine on stage, at a cabaret. It feels smart, yet cheeky at the same time. You said that the belt inspired you to think about the design in a sense of 80s aerobics meets neon punk fashion, and I think that you achieved the aerobics vibe, but the punk is a bit harder to see outside of the cool shirt print you created. Unfortunately, in comparison to the other outfits this week, I feel as though this design comes across as a little more costumey. It’s definitely sitting on the border and not a design I’d think high fashion with, but sometimes taking a risk can help you create something new.

Omg when I saw this I was incredibly happy!- I don't think we have ever seen anything similar to this, 80s aerobatic! There isn't a more perfect task that you could have done this, the belt works perfectly and I'm incredibly proud that you chose this one with this design! You were the only one to change the colour of their "belt" and I'm not entirely sure if it has a different effect on the original, but it looks just as good. Yeah I had a great time viewing this, very fun, and an awesome pairing to the belt, I cannot fault :)

This is striking, the first thing we see is this entire back section, which wasn't necessarily part of the task to make it something new, but what you did with the placement is thoroughly thought out and so intriguing. It hugs perfectly, making it almost seem like it was designed to fit around this coat, almost like a spine/ribcage of sort. The fabric use on your underlayers is immaculate, it looks expensive, I can't help wonder if it would be an inch more fun with some sort of colour. But I don't care much about that as that is pretty much my only negative! The way you elongated the harness itself is

also an extremely smart move!

This belt asked for sex and you gave me sexy in the most counter intuitive way possible: covering up. I love it. There is so much attitude in this that it truly gives off the dom vibes I imagine the belt to have. From a technical point of view, the way you have layered your items is exquisite. You have created ruffles and layers through the shape of the belt and edges of the jacket and skirt, which to me feels very much like the emo/goth aesthetic I used to aspire towards when in highschool. The way your chosen belt blends with the suspender belt is also very clever - I almost didn’t notice that it was there and assumed it was all the same piece at first. Great work.

Task  Rankings

Congratulations to alydaman for coming in first place this week. Your innovation in presenting this belt and application of the prief paid off.

Unfortunately this week, Snawl is our bottom placement. It was a difficult task for both judges to assess but ultimately we e agreed that it wasn't quite what it needed to get over the line.
