Task 6 - Application look challenge
This task marks the halfway point of the challenges. You have all grown so much since the start of this long term, so it seems only fitting that we take the time to look back, reflect on our personal growth journeys, and put the lessons we have learnt into practice.
Remember how when you all applied I demanded a look from everyone that they believed showcased their style? Well it's time to bring them back up...
But I'm not going to tell you who is who quite yet.

For those watching along, I want you guys to have a bit of fun too! You spend so much time looking at the outfits but here is your chance to get interactive. Vote on who you think designed each outfit below. Please note: I've asked for your username in this section so I can randomly award a prize to some of the people who guess :)

As for the contestants, your task is to pick one of these outfits and improve it. You may choose your own originally submitted design if you wish. This is an early taste at collection thinking, where you need to consider how to design an outfit that draws upon the themes it tries to communicate and bring them to life in a new way.​

Week six also marks the start of a singular deadline. All contestants have a week to submit their final outfits, and no outfits will be displayed prior to the deadline.
​
To give you some inspiration, see some of my improvements on past looks which I submitted to Lidlterm S3 below. The first looks both showcase flowy aesthetics with bright colour palettes, while the second looks build upon kawaii punk culture. These themes are carried across, building off the original looks and improving the original designs.

The Collection
Critiques
I am loving the new sillhouette you have crated for this outfit. Best use of the egg I've seen to date, for real. This design however feels quite different from the original you submitted with the similarities focusing more on the colours and the fact that you yourself were the original designer (so there will always be an air of connection there). For that reason, I kind of wish you had challenged yourself to upcycle someone else's look because this design, as gorgeous as it is, feels a bit more like a cousin than a sister.

The glitch on this is the first thing I saw and it is what kept me looking. I try not to give away my immediate thoughts when players submit, but I couldn’t resist asking how you glitched this outfit together because it was honestly bugging me that I couldn’t figure it out!! (side pose with a walk and wave pose on for anyone else reading along).
Ok, let’s talk about what I like: that green line coming down from the net/hood and travelling the seam of the coat is gorgeous. I always struggle with effective use of the tails but when it is done right, I’m loving it. I like how you have inverted the colour composition from the original outfit and created something that seems a little darker, more foreboding. The downside to this is that your outfit isn’t as attention grabbing as some of your competitors. The black and green contrast is brilliant, but on the other side it feels like the design is falling into the shadows and loses priority.
I've sat on it for a bit and think the biggest distraction for this design personally is the hair. I don't mind a bit of colour in hair styles and stuff but it pulls me further away from the narrative of the original look and gives a bit more of a mad scientist vibe which is distracting to the task you are trying to achieve.

It's always interesting when I have players approach this by choosing their favourite outfit from the choices and use that to inspire a new design (which in turn brings it more into the style of the person submitting) - so that's a shoutout to the talen we are missing from Nicrobbo95. What I'm drawn to here is the way you repurposed the black and white stripes into the arm and skirt. It's so bold and yet subtle at the same time. Because there isn't much brightness in the outfit it really draws the attention of the viewer but doesn't overwhelm the design, instead it is perfectly balanced. The connection to the first outfit is still apparent, especially with the hood/jacket approach, but this new version definitely has the kiss of snawl imbued into it. Although simple at first glance, the elements have been clearly chosen with great consideration and mellow each other out perfectly.

You said you wanted to take the original design and recreate it in a way that felt less harsh and more cohesive. Filip I hope you’re reading this because Sarah roasted your ass – she said your original looked odd together because space helmets, blazers and baggy pants AINT IT.
I like how you’ve transformed this design into something that feels a little more you while still paying homage to the original hat, coat, bag, pants structure of the piece. Even though it's a little more formal than what was previously presented, it still feels kind of street and I think the flame pants help with this as it helps ground the piece.

Omg girl, I’ve been yelling at you to use hair and I’m so glad you did for this task. I will get to the clothes in a minute, but this look you submitted without hair would not be nearly as impactful with that bald scalp showing. You entered this competition with a very simple, silhouette design and to improve on that you kept true to a few elements including the fingerless gloves cutouts to showcase skin, and keeping the white embellishments. I’m glad you stepped up on the embellishments because it adds so much dimension to the otherwise black outfit. This design moves away from the elegant ball gown style into a more street aesthetic but it still works and links clearly to the original. For me what I see here is true growth and doing so with your own design. It has moved away from just a basic shape and created something new by infusing detail and attitude.

I'm really sorry but every time I look at this design I just think of saggy tits. The detail and intricacy is amazing but because you have created something which is a nude illusion, it looks like your boobs are hanging out and not in the most flattering way. I do love the structure between the backpack straps and the arms - this is a cool detail; and other than the saggy tits element, the design itself makes sense. I don't feel like the way you styled your head was helping elevate the look as much as you would have liked however.

Ok, this really feels like we have gone from a teenager in your original look to an adult in their early 20s - the attitude is still there, but the submission brings a sexiness that wasn't present in the original design. I love that the pants, belt and the shirt edges look like they are made from the same material as the dress int he first look. It helps unify the pieces, while still creating something distinctively different.

The Results
So I struggled a lot this week. In part because my family is going through some personal stuff, and also in part because what you all submitted were honestly so good. All of your scores are high, in fact only half points separated each of you. You all understood the brief, and created something unique and interesting. When writing critiques I had to try and nit pick a bit and for some of you I honestly just gave up because you all are delivering your 100%.

The beauty of being the host is that I have the freedom to choose what I do with results, and while I will be ranking you all as usual, I have decided that no one will be going home this week. Do not expect this to happen again in the competition. Think of it as a reward because of how hard you have all worked so far.

Congratulations to Snawl for being the winner of this weeks task. You created something which not only looked like a collection to the original look, but also showed constraint in the right ways to create an improved design overall.
