Task 3 - Split Personality

There is something cool about bringing together two, seemingly opposite elements to create something new. It can give room to interweave different styles which perhaps on their own you wouldn't usually pair, or create new variations on clothing that you didn't think was possible.

For this task you will be creating two looks which will get spliced together bringing the left look to splice into the right look so that it can blend together to create a cohesive, new fashion look. This task is an opportunity to pave the way for innovation and if done right, it will give you the opportunity to create something entirely new that you can't get in the Habbo wardrobe. There is no set stylistic theme, so have fun experimenting and creating something that rethinks the way clothes are visualised using this half/half method.

For this task, we will be joined by guest judge, Arber. He is saavy with pixels and quick with words. You can ask either myself or Arby for help when it comes to editing this week! Just make sure all final submissions are sent to me when you are happy with them.

You may choose to edit these yourself (see fixthephoto and photoshop tutorial here), however if this is something you do not wish to do, you can ask myself or our special guest judge this week for help editing. You are entitled to receive one drafted mockup, and then one final submission edit by myself or Arber.

Critiques

I love the way the like gray fur trimming goes all the way around using different materials. The split is subtle af, I kind of wish it was a little more obvious, but the outfit itself is very fashion. The little kisses of blurple are also just the right amount of colour to lift you out of this monotone palette. Nice work.

Liddell Wayne.

One of the best things about the week is it's amazing how much you can put in your mouth. Stories are gray death. A good job is waiting for you. I hope you can add not blue and only black and gray to make the clothes bigger.

Rosyum Saints,

you worked and gave us gifts. White is bad, color is good! I will never forget how you made both sides and how you made this unique and special decoration. Not only that, but somehow he uses this amazing technology to magically defeat us. You're right, this hot girl decided to walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week. One of my favorite things
of the week.

I choose my call order before I recieve the outfits, so it's kinda funny to have you right after rozu when you have taken a somewhat similar patchwork approach in my mind. My favourite thing about this outfit is how you lined up the prints on the shirt to get this jilted design that is both cohesive and also split. I also quiet enjoy the diagonal streak of the deep blue peeping out from the bag strap and continuing down the right hand side. I'm not sure if the overall look is as strong as some of your other competitors this week however.

Orgasm is a work of art. Let's pay attention to the shape, form, color and structure of the image. I think it's a different color, but it doesn't match, but it matches the suit perfectly. One of my favorites this week.

This look is full of attitude and SUCH an improvement from your draft. You've taken the split and used it to create a patchwork style of different fabircs and colours and it works nicely. I like the assymetry going on, and I LOVE the way you have lined up the green top on the right with the dress on the left. My only wish is that you had maybe chosen a different skirt underneath the dress on the left hand side - the way it doesn't line up with the right hand side is a bit jarring for a look that so seamlessly integrated up until that point.

Your design definitely shows your punk attitude and aesthetic, however I feel like you are trying to do too much with it. There are so many different elements that are just fighting for attention and it's a little overwhelming. From different length pants (which could have easily been fixed with a chef outfit pant leg on the left), to a million straps with slightly differing colours, stripes, to checkers to patches... Each element feels like it is fighting each other. I also found it a little odd that you insisted on having that one pixel row in the middle with skin/the top and I can't really see the advantage it gives you here. At best, it's a pink strip further up? Sorry, but this week just didn't quite hit for me.

A game of desire.

Understand meaning and context, understand the essence of content. What I don't like is the solid black version. That alone undoes all the work involved in creating this
well-written, asymmetrical masterpiece.

One of the more frequent critiques I gave players this week when they asked for feedback is that the details are lost in the black, and for this I sort of feel the same, but what I do love ist hat you have created new details with the white elements you have thrown in. Is it on the simpler side of looks this week? Yes, but the assymetrical sillhoutte you have created from this is brilliant. The reason this look was chosen over your other one however is becuase you were erring on the side of too simple. The little face piece in my eyes really adds that final extra detail the look needed.

Ok you shady bitch, let's go. This is a classic snawl, you know exactly who you are looking at the moment you see it, and I really do think you have used this task to highlight old school clothing with retro items to elevate, so well done. My favourite thing about the look is the extra detail you have crammed into the belt using the loop from the PJ shorts. It's subtle but it fits so well. The drawback I have with this outfit is that the right hand side feels very weighty in comparison to the left. I am left wondering if flipping the long part of the hair to the left might have helped balance that out a little.

Corolla? Just kidding, I think this is one of my favorite girlfriends of the week. You give us decisions, attitudes, and topics. Prints are important to them, and small details and embellishments take their style to the next level. Red Dog is an additional item required to complete this final path. But I hate shoes,

This feels very Cruella De Ville. I know those shoes are fixed in those colours so I wonder if they inspired the whole outfit, and if it did, why stick with them - you can use their split colouring at any time in the competition, but you only had one week where you could literally mix and match shoe. The outfit as a whole is very unifying. I like the dashes between the white and black meeting in the middle, I just wish you had stopped while you were ahead as you submitted your final outfit four times and one of them showcased your white overarching sash only on the right hand side and GIRL that was THE ONE (at least in my opinion). This is good, but that was great. It really spoke to your cut in half belt and shirt on the left and had that play going on still.

the snow.

You are amazed at how you can meet my expectations for this job! I know it's Snavel's business. He somehow manages to bring a sense of coherence and realism to the experimental photographic works he creates. Very good, good, good. The fat of this fudge cake is orange.

Peyton.

Combine this performance with a beautiful palette and a dress full of emotions. Pants are my favorite, I look for small details that combine two things that don't separate to create a unit. good job

I'm sorry to say that the best thing you've got going on with this outfit is the hair. This look is a miss for me. I like the detail and ruffling on the left hand side, but with it drenched in black it's kind of lost. The half vest could read a bit punk but the look doesn't really stand out as something that is trying to push boundaries this week. I will say, I'm glad you fixed your makeup, because the previous iteration you were thinking of submitting was far too distracting and while this is still a STARK contrast to the rest of your outfit, I think it blends with the vibe of your look better than before.

I understand your ideas and can implement most of them, but I think it needs something special to make it clear. The colors look so confident girl..your breasts are perfect. The same can be said about shoes. How do you walk in these two completely different shoes? It drives me absolutely crazy.

I was very happy to see someone else playing with a back/front look split to truly create something unique and one of a kind. this look is so edgy and street, yet so sophisticated at the same time. The detail on the right body pieces and the way you've connected them is just *chef kiss*the way you have used the brown suspenders and bag strap to connect with the belt - yes! I just wish you'd looked at styling the head. I know you are trying to avoid doing that to ensure your PR designs are separated from your in game style, but I'm worried it is holding you back. The grey straps on your right torso are accessories, so why stop there? you can bring in accessories in a whole new area of your model and it is being severely under utilised. The look this week can still hold it's own, but I don't want you to trip up in
future weeks because you are stuck in that space.

Cassandra Gott.

I dislike. The black is elegant, elegant and bright, and the edge part is soft. Replace the tartan with a similar black fabric and add jewelry to make the outfit stand out. Also, there's nothing wrong with fake eye makeup.

I'm getting a 1900's (somewhere between the 20s to 40s) vintage swimming costume vibe from this, both in construction and colour pallete. I love the way you have taken the stripes and just used that as your inspiration for the look, pushing them in different directions to create this outfit. I also really appreciate that you founda great way to showcase that bow form the star back - I am always coming back to that piece when I prototype but the big ugly star is what eventually leads me to scrap those designs. What I don't love are the shoes. For me, they don't work in this particular look, but it's minor. I would also like to highlight that most of your other looks that you didn't submit this week were great.
I honestly really enjoyed viewing your process this week.

Oh, that dress is so beautiful. This palette is perfect for letting each image and composition breathe and express itself. Out of all the clothes here, I would 100% wear them. (Okay, not 100%, this crap is killing me.) Can't you see that one foot is floating on the ground and the other is bad? Ladies, get ready as best you can because this model is just around

Gorgeous and grey. This outfit blends so seamlessly yet still is full of little details that make it obvious that it is two parts. I know that you're towards the end of my call up on my self confessed tipsy critiques, but I have been thinking that since the day you submitted. Using greys instead of all black is smart because it allows you to see some of the detail in the cloth without overwhelming the design. Something that I find cool that may have been unintentional is the choice of earring on the left hand side - with the white background it almost looks as if the hair becomes a giant fringe which is kind of cool. I also appreciate that your makeup is subtle and compliments the green tones of the vest piece on your right.

Ramona.

Overall, I really like it, but I don't like the overall style. Your bust is amazing, the features of the picture are nice and fresh, the way you chose these panels and the length of each leg and arm gives the dress a modern and voluminous look. Fashion is "over". atmosphere I
think I can buy this at a sporting goods store.

This outfit is cool, but I'm sitting somewhere between loving and and being underwhelmed. The stripey theme is fine, but it just feels like it is lacking something because my favourite parts of this outfit end up being the skirt on the left and the bright blue glove. I will admit, when I was looking at this outfit I did think you had misaligned it at first because of your colour flip on the belt, so I find that was quite clever, but I just feel like for the top you didn't push boundaries as much as you could have and just focussed on choosing different colours.

What medicine do you use for this? Ideas for decorating? Stupid is cool, how do you mix stripes and a base color? Your call is very, very good. Have you decided to wear a pink shirt and a white pillow under your dress? This is not true. They don't deserve it and I hate them! I love and hate this dress in equal measure and it took some skill.

Task 3 Rankings

Some of you will hate it but regret it in a second. I make games that make you think outside the box because it helps me in the game because I can think outside the box. It's fun to make something that can't be reused because photo sharing isn't allowed on the Mini and it certainly won't be anytime soon. So even if you think your teeth are bigger than your stomach, embrace the chaos! This is an opportunity to grow. x

The first series this week was unanimous as Snavl took our breath away. I assume you have justified your curse with your submission:

"Mmkay so my prediction is that people are going to get so caught up in combining two whacky outfits that they're gonna forget this is Project RUNWAY and these are supposed to be runway appropriate outfits. So here's my submission, it may not be the most creative or out-there submission but I am exceedingly proud of it, and I would happily send it down a runway with my namesake attached to it."

I was very happy to see that it was only the third week and everyone was already busy. But it's hard every week after people. Ashley, you are an incredible designer, but I missed you this week. Wood in the design. Don't worry.

Some of ya'll hated this task, but I'm not even sorry. I host thees that force you to push the boundaries because when I play it helps me feel like I am growing from being forced to think outside the box. It's also nice to be able to design something that you will never see utilised again because well, split looks aren't exactly accepted as a technique in minis and they sure as heck aren't possible in short terms! So embrace the chaos of the themes even if you think you're biting off more than you can chew! It's a chance to grow. x

The first placement for this week was unanimous, as Snawl took our breath away. I guess you lived up to your bravado from the submission:

I'm very happy to see that it is only week three and already everyone is bringing it in spades. That does however mean sending people away each week is difficult. Ashley, you are a very talented designer, but this week was just a miss for you. Keep on designing. Don't give up.
