Task 10 - Semi Finals
Congratulations on making it this far! We started with so many designers back at the start of this game and yet here we are, almost ready to wrap up another longterm Project Runway game! Of course, at this point in the game, the competition is fierce and it's not about to get easier. With custom finals collections just around the corner, this is your last chance to prove yourself. And because the next task will be based on your ability to create cohesive collections, it is only fitting that I get you to demonstrate your understanding of collection work - by designing a total of three looks.
Looks 1 & 2
For this part of the task I want you to create an avante garde design, and a ready to wear variant on this look. Consider how a designer might make a super fabulous, out of this work, extra sort of look which is showstopping, but often costly to make and out of reach of the mass consumer market. This same designer might then create something simpler which draws on similar themes but is much more suitable for everyday wear and usually less expensive to purchase. Use your avante garde look to design your second, and make sure their relation to each other is clear.
Look 3
Your third look must be a collection piece to match an outfit designed by either myself or one of my guest hosts throughout
this season (see choices below). When designing your collection look, you may utilise any editing techniques from the previous
tasks, even if your chosen design you are matching to does not
use the technique.
Here's the thing though. We are in the semis, and due to a lot of unforeseen early forfeits (or late submissions), there are three designers left, and I have 3 spots for the finals. I don't want this to be just a task where you are simply creating for the the sake of my entertainment and not to fight for a placement (although I do love demanding people design shit for me), so I'm bringing in a wild card.
The Wild Card
Two of the designers who have made it to this task will be guaranteed a spot in the finals. That third spot however is up for grabs. Any designer who was eliminated from the competition will be eligible to compete for the third spot in the finals.
All contestants will be ranked by myself and the guest judges from throughout this competition to determine who this final spot goes to. While the first two placements will be awarded by my scores only, the final spot will go to the designer who has the highest average rank for this task (assuming they have not already taken one of the two other spots).
Best of luck designers!

Every single person of this cast has had a specific story, I think your story has not been seen by as many people as others, but being a viewer of you for so many years, alongside a few others, we’ve been able to see you from the beginning. You have done yourself proud, and everyone else now knows your full potential. These two outfits this week have shown exactly who you are. These outfits are my personal favourites, alongside your other submission this week. No one layers like you do.

Although at a glance the outfit seems quite simple there are so many layers of complexity in this piece. What I love about this look is the way you have created this beautiful blood red neckpiece full of volume which drips down your model. It pushes the definition of what we see in the construction of garments in these PR games, and to me that is the very essence of avante garde. Your inspiration of a bleeding heart is clear within this design.

This look is definitely ready to wear, and has a clear connection to the first, but I’m not as drawn in by this design compared to your avante garde one. I think your dripping elements shown in the bear scarf and jacket work but I’m not overly engaged by them. The thing that does stand out on this look for me is your bottom half however. That peep of fringe balanced with the shows in an asymmetry that is unique but still something that could be seen as commercial is very interesting.

I love how you inadvertadely chose a look that I created in response to a look I submitted for your S3 long term. It feels a little bit full circle in a way haha. The outfit is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could say I could have thought of this, but the truth is this look has your stylistic imprint all over it while still matching the aesthetic of the my Task 6 piece. The clashing patterns give the design energy, and add volume, playing to the bold strap lines and fluffieness of the jacket respectively on my look you are collectioning. This is fierce. Nice work.

Well, there are so many things one could say about you, but when I think of your journey here, I think it shows the strongest representation of just how powerful our “Up & Coming” Designers in the community can be. Both of these outfits are stella quality. I love how it seems they could be the same outfit during a transformation, yet still being different in the smaller details.

You chose the right task to get a bit weird by bringing in literal fire with the candle and what I can only assume is emulated fire on the arms. What I keep staring at in this design however is this oversized neck scarf that covers up so much. That is such a fun idea which I’m not sure I’ve seen on the Habbo PR runway in this way before. It does mean that with all these interesting details at the top, the bottom half is left feeling not as strong in this avante garde look. The off white colour doesn’t create the same strength the rest of the design does, even if I’m assuming you were wanting to draw the emphasis towards the shape of the edge of those pants.

This look is interesting. The silhouette is big and bold, and I’m left wondering if the ‘wings’ are sleeves or a shawl draped over the arms. I like that the scalloped shawl/sleeves have links to the scalloped pant cuffs. It feels like an abstracted reference to the dripping wax. I do wonder if the vest piece could have been changed to create something that feels a bit more delicate to match the style of those scallops across the rest of the piece because in contrast to these it feels a little rough.

This look you have created feels a little bit dated to me – a bit like a 2000s party dress more so than cutting edge fashion. But I will say that I love the way you have created this blend between the shirt and skirt to make it seem connected naturally. Colour wise, the designs do work towards the same story, but I feel like what you are missing here is the attitude of the first outfit. To me, your design just falls a little flat when put next to the Task 2 look. Perhaps the cross necklace is trying to emulate the undershirt from the Task 2 look however with the cut and flow of the dress and the gloves it feels a bit 80s/90s madonna instead. I wonder if the design could have benefitted from the introduction of an extra colour to push the boundaries (and perhaps your comfort) a bit further.

It’s always a joy and a great experience to see what someone who used to be part of the scene and has taken a fairly long break produces. It means we get to see fresh perspective, but also kinda a blast from the past!, Which is sure what we have been given! These two outfits here are so individual in themselves, and hold so much impact, with such vibrancy they are brought together so harmoniously.

This shape. This texture. This design. I don't even know where to start! It's gorgeous!!!! Weird? Yes, but great? Absolutely. Even without seeing your inspiration for the looks this outfit has such a strong and powerful impact and you should be so proud of what you have put out here today. Short and sweet because you smashed this task out of the park in my mind.

I love that this look is very clearly the relative to your avante garde look while still being totally different in a way that makes it commercial - because let's be real, you wouldn't be getting a mass consumerist audience picking up the avante garde piece from the rack for every day wear. In a way you have given yourself an advantage by pushing the envelope so far with your avante garde look because it forced you to bring the look back to its most basic elements and reconstruct it in a way that is refined and simple. Your whole aesthetic this season has been leading up to this bauhaus inspired style and you are killing it.

Your look reminds me of a tequila sunrise. There is something soothing to how you have simplified the first outfit and captured the chaos of the flames and put them into this flowing mini dress. The contrast between those dark hues and those pops of yellow and orange just work so well. It contrasts with the original look in the sense of it having a softer nature, however it is unmistakably still linked. Nice work.

I'm liking the pattern and the texture in this piece. It add detail to what feels like a bit more of a simplistic choice of clothing, however I don't know if that pushes the look far enough into avante garde for me. I like what you've done with the hair styling, and to me, that works so well for the avante garde theme, however the rest of the outfit, while perfectly stylish and well presented, doesn't match the innovative, boundary pushing style I was expecting for this look. I will give credit where credit is due though, and if this was a collection task only, I think your two pieces are married together perfectly.

I love this look. it feels very street and yet chic at the same time. Like a winter sort of skater girl vibe, but in a way that feels like she goes to a private school and comes from money (much like, the Gossip Girl crowd, oh how I miss that show). I love the way you have incorporated the detail from the blue stripe across the shirt into the straps and blended it together, and the illusion of the jacket blending into the shirt is honestly *chef kiss*. This is a really clever composition and you should be immensely proud of it. Well done.

You have done a lot with so little. There is simplicity in spades and yet it all ties together so well (pun intended cause you know... the bows...). I think my favourite part of htis look is the decision to use those strappy heels and garter straps. To me, it feels like you are emulating the stripes on the skirt from the Task 1 look in a way that is minimalist and clever. Meanwhile you are balancing it with an abundance of bows. This is short and sweet because I think you have done an excellent job in pairing your look and it feels truly cohesive. Great work.

I love that you haven't given up your street-wear style throughout this competition, even when it comes to the avante garde week. This look is so deceptively simple, and yet so elegant and chic. There has been some real thought that has gone into this look, from the white trim of the hood paired with the white gloves, to the oversized and baggy nature across the entire outfit and the strappy sort of scarf draping across the design. This is very clever. Well done.

I think your style has shone through the best in this task honestly. i know I kind of said the same thing at the start of the avante garde comments, but the more I look at this set, the more I think this is you at your best and you should be incredibly proud of what you have delivered here. To make your look commercial, you took the baggy style and contained it by sewing down seams, and this even carries across to your bubble braid hair which further solidifies this idea. I also love that you have somewhat transformed your strappy scarf into a criss crossy bra halter neck sort of thing and it's just so chic and fashionable. I honestly think I could see this flying off the shelves.

I am in love with what you created for this headpiece, but also I have no idea how you achieved it exactly. It looks like a mix of a pharaoh mask, the new headscarf and hair, but from my understanding, that shouldn't be possible. Anyway, it is interesting none the less. I like the way the stripes from that headpiece are continued down throughout the whole look without being overwhelming. You took the colour reference from my Task 2 design and expanded it out, keeping the bold statement headpiece style. I also love how you ensured these stripes didn't overwhelm too much through the use of the jacket, using it to bring cohesion into the dress. I'm not sure those shoes look as good with this design as they did with the Task 2 look, but perhaps that is a result of the angle it is displayed on. Otherwise nice work.

This look is so interesting while using fairly basic items on offer to us all. I love that about it. The 2 sets of ears feel very Uhu, and they add so much drama to this peice as they protude out of this fluffball of a hat. It creates drama and tension before you even look further down the peice. I love that you chose to use red and pink together because they offfset each other in a way that feels off but works if that makes sense, while the blue creates the much needed contrast. I also love the bits of skin you kept in this piece. It allows for breathing space in what could otherwise be seen as a busy look helping it to remain balanced. Great work.

I struggle to see how your ready to wear look feels like a more commercial version of your first piece. To me, it still feels stuck in avante garde which is hard because there are a lot of interesting and clever details encompassed in the design. I do liek the way you have used the wings/cape design to create a dramatic sillhouette and body to your piece bringing out that real hourglass figure which we don't usually see due to the constraints of habbo. Additionally the way you bring the lining fabric from the cape into the skirt feels very clever. At the end of the day though, while this is a brilliant look, the only thing that I feel unites these pieces is the colour. They are too different for my liking to succeed in this task.

I'm loving the way the gold from the shoulder plates blend down into the dress flowers making it look like one connected piece. I really like that you took the armour and flower influences from your first piece and took it to a very different place with your collection look. The inspiration is almost simple but the execution of the outfit itself feels so balanced and right. Unfortunately for me I'm not totally in love with the styling from the hair. I can see the connection to flowers with the face veil but the canvas feels a bit disconnected due to the overwhelming amount of white present here for me. Brilliant clothing overall though.

If your looks had a theme, it would be feathers, from the headpiece, to the cape, to the petals in between this is united by that allusion. I love that you did a back look for the avante garde piece because it helps us see the detail of these feathers in all their glory. It is a dramatic statement of a headpiece that deserves the attention and I think you have done a wonderful job referencing it in the rest of the design without drawing too much away from them as well.

I like the way you have incorporated the gold here form the tinsel in your avante garde look back into this design with your earrings. it is subtle and elegant without being beyond the reach of normal fashion. The green on the top is a great way to honour the first look as with a busy wavy pattern and still be simple and ready to wear, and your feather theme comes back in through your skirt and the patterns on the headscarf. This is honestly a great collection that encompasses the theme and the only critique I really have for it is the choice of eyes which is kind of a moot point. Nice work Ash.

I love what you have done with this look. You used this piece as your redemption to the half half look that got you eliminated in week three and I'm loving all the detail you put into this piece. The layers on the scarves blend together so perfectly its hard to even realise that it is a split item, likewise, the way the feathered belt and the shirt blend is so seamless, I'm not sure I would have noticed if I had not been the one to splice these together for you.I think it was smart to stick with a consistent shoe as it helps bring cohesion to the piece, and I do wonder if you could have pushed the hair a little further by using something that wasn't pre-split coloured (you could have worn any single hairstyle and replicated this shade split perfectly), but overall it looks great and it makes total sense with the outfit you were trying to match. Well redeemed.

Please forgive me, averages were a pain in the ass this week so you get average ranks instead of general averages. It was a pleasure to have you all in the competition and to welcome back so many older faces for the wild card round. While I can't have you all in the finals, I want you to know that I think you've all done exceptional work this week.
Due to a tie in average ranks for the wild card spots I will be welcoming two contestants back into the game alongside our top two semi finalists. Congratulations to Alex, Filip, Paowee, and Mickey. I look forward to seeing your collection in te coming weeks.
