Task 2 - Turning Heads
Elegant clothes aren't the only part of fashion. You can have a killer outfit, but the right accessories paired with it really help it to shine. In Fresh Faces, we are always looking for new ideas and innovation which is why, for this task, you will be creating a unique head accessory by layering different elements from the hair, hat, accessory, glasses and facemask sections. This task isn't about using something from every area, but rather layering and combining these pieces to create a headpiece that is interesting
and new.

Once you have created your unique head accessory,
pair it with an outfit to match. The headpiece should
be the star of the show for this task, so be sure not to
overpower your clothing designs and pull focus from
your accessory.

Once again, up and coming designers will receive
one piece of advice this week, and enjoy a later deadline.

Critiques
I know this was a headpiece challenge, but what I'm obsessed with is what you have under that coat. Those colours blend in a way that is reminiscent about water colours and that is the part I keep coming back to when I look at this outfit. The rest of the outfit however, comes across as quite heavy. Maybe it is the amount of pieces stacked into the headpiece itself, or the darker colour palette weighing it down, It feels like I'm wading through a bog mentally to unpack the outfit.

The colour choices here are superb. Absolutely stunning combo with creates a striking look. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but this look seems to have a bit of a sailor-esque vibe to it - with the giant bow and sailorish cap headpiece combo, paired with the necktie - but by choosing mini skirts and open toed shoes you have given it an edge that feels like something a teenager would wear, rather than just a cute kids sailor outfit.

My first impression of this was that you had submitted a blood shitting chicken as a headpiece. What the fuck Filip. Have you transformed the chicken into something unrecognisable? no, instead you've embraced the chicken and tried to see how you could compliment it further, and let me tell you, the way you have colour matched those headpiece ears to blend and create almost an illusion of wings flapping is very impressive. I love the clean simplicity that exists within both the headpiece and the accompanying outfit. The dress is giving farmer references and is equally elegant, but it also pulls the focus back up to the headpiece which is the true star of this show.

One thing I can never fault you on is your ability to layer - and this is a compliment coming from me as that is my go to technique when it comes to PR. I love the way you have brought in all these little stripes of colour throughout the outfit to give it a pop of dimension, while they still blend seamlessly and don't look like a bunch of seperate items. I do wonder however if the dress piece pulls attention a bit too much from the custom head piece - the gold on the headpiece is stunning, but the white is already featured as the non-dominant aspect of the loook that leaving it all white may have caused it to blend in a bit and not stand out as much as it could have. This perhaps isn't helped by the yellow feather peeping out from the archer cap behind the moth pieces. The design also reads a little fantasy which is bordering towards a CC vibe, be mindful of this in
the future.

There is so much stuff crammed in that cage that it's hard to tell what you've stuffed in there. What I am getting however is a sea-themed vibe from your colours and choice of accessories to create your headpiece. I like the play between the cage on the head and the net pattern on the shirt, I think these interact nicely together. I'm also not sure if I should be interpreting this as a back look or a front look with your face completely covered.

Another stand out when it comes to colour choices this week, I'm so happy you revisited your original idea. You told me you were going for a neon punk type bike helmet look, and with the chosen styling of the clothing I have to assume its for a motorbike not a push bike. I quite like how the hair choice seems to blend in with the side of the skirt, so it cascades down into a super long hair style.
I'm not sure I'm sold on your shoe choice, but the head accessory is definitely unique and out of the box.

I love this headpiece, it's really elegant and beautiful, I just wish you had taken the clothes in a different direction to a toga so it didn't feel so much like a Greek CC costume. Perhaps a colour other than white would have benefitted you more in trying to break away from that idea. I do like the way the shirt(s) and skirt layer and the bits of blue coming in, but at the end of the day it is hard to look past a toga costume. You did submit two designs and ask me to choose one of them as your free advice for the week, and the comments would have remained the same with a headpiece I liked less if I had chosen the other look.

This is fucking stunning. I can't do minimalism. I'm very open about how it's my weak point when it comes to PR, but when I see someone else nail it, then I'm obsessed. And that is what you have done. Using the repeated wrapping of cord to create unity between the headpiece and the shirt is just amazing and then balancing it out with that simple blue. *chef kiss* Honestly in love. <3

I love the headpiece. Choosing to use those weird wings was a bold choice because it can be hard to get right with their dimensions - I don't even think I did them justice in my sample at the top of the task - but using the golden crown to centre it and anchor it as a headpiece was really smart. I feel like I have a few designs this week which feel a bit more costumey, and this is one of them - perhaps because it could slot right into a gods/goddesses theme for the finals of a CC game, and like some of the others I've said this to, it could have potentially been resolved with different colour choices on the outfit itself. Imagine your leaf ask in a black with punk rock themes translated into the dress/cape for example - it would completely shift the dynamic of the outfit and how it is interpreted. That said, the headpiece and the outfit as separate entities are still good.

I don't think I expected to see something that reminds me so strongly of a wrestlers outfit, but here we are. Perhaps it is driven home more with the bold eye makeup and choice of accessories because your draft with that headpiece told a very different story. Don't get me wrong, I still love the head piece and the outfit, but the end result just comes across as a little costumey to me. Hats off to you for finding that combination of the hair, crown and weird heart though. It's a very clever arrangement which I would never have thought of.

Oh how I have missed seeing your designs with hair! But I do wonder if you could have pushed your headpiece further. You showed me a number of drafts, and of all of them, I think the outfit on this one is the best, but this headpiece pushed the least boundaries. I will say the way you chose to use that alien hat thing layers really well with the hair as it comes across as more of a wig than anything else, and the flower ties it in nicely, I just wish we could have seen a bit more adventure I guess. I will give credit where credit is due, the blossoms on the dress tie well with the alien dots on the hair so they do talk to each other. What you knocked out of the park is your outfit. The clothes are sexy, daring and on the cutting edge of fashion. The only thing I would have changed about the clothes themselves is making the cape black. This is very much a clothing combo I would wear irl and the layers work well.

That star back accessory is one that I absolutely ADORE and I am so excited that you found an opportunity to make use of it. The layering across this whole outfit is amazing. I love the way you have blended that crown with the bow and the eye piece - you truly have made a one of a kind accessory and paired it with an outfit that matches the style on the headpiece so well. I know how you constructed every piece, but I honestly cannot stop staring at it. Well done.

Well this head accessory is a statement piece! The texture and size of it almost makes it look like a lions mane is coming out from an engulfing black hood. The only downside with the headpiece design is those fucking glowing eyes which are so distracting. I get that there are limitations when working with premade assets though. Keeping your outfit simple to match was the right decision as the headpiece is such a large piece. I love the clean and simple lines and the grey palette complimented with those kisses of red to tie it back to the headpiece. Nice work.

Task 2 Rankings
This has been one of my absolute favourite go-to themes for my short terms in the hotel, so I was very excited to see what everyone came up with when given a bit more time. The looks are varying and diverse and there are definitely a few out of the box ideas here.
I found it really hard to judge this one fairly, so I made sure to triple check my judgement rubric from the Rules as I was choosing placements this week to ensure I took out as much bias as possible to ensure everyone had a fair chance. Fun fact, my favourite outfit of the week is not the top ranked because of the way I try and take into consideration how effective designers were when creating outfits to a brief while being innovative and creating something which may be wacky, but could still be seen as wearable in a fashion forward world. You should all be very proud of what you each submitted.

This week we have a set of joint winners. When I have even scores I usually go through and I tweak the rank according to what I believe the rank should be from there, however this week I thought both Ash and Sarah did a spectacular job in different ways and so I am awarding them a shared first place rank.

Even though it is only week two, this competition is already cut throat which is good because it means everyone is striving to push themselves. Unfortunately we will be saying goodbye to Jer this week, who has so much potential, but fell short of the competition in this task. I hope to see you in future competitions, and invite you to continue to submit for a chance at the most improved prize.
