Task 7 - Glow Party
I have just come back from World of Wearable Art runway, hosted in New Zealand where they push the boundaries of what fashion is. This spectacular experience lead me to reflect on some of my own designs I've created and how I personally push the boundaries in what I create. I've always been entranced by light art and installations, and one of my designs from 2018 took this concept and put it into a versatile skirt/dress design using LED strip lighting. This dress literally glowed!~
I want you to take the concept of glowing designs and create an outfit that not only holds up when viewed in the daylight, but also comes to life with one colour glowing once the lights are turned off.
Your look will be given the glow treatment and then animated to showcase the transition from day to night, and both the day and night version of the look will be taken into consideration when judging.
You are entitled to one photoshopped preview of the glow design, however you may also choose to photoshop these mockups yourself for feedback or preview. [1. Photoshop Tutorial, 2. Online Web Editor Tutorial, 3. Photoshop gif animation tutorial] If you choose to edit your glow look yourself, you must submit both the original look and the glow look separately. Mockups you ask the host to photoshop for feedback have a lockout 24 hours before the deadline.

Critiques
So your night look is gorgeous. I love how as the sun sets this bright pattern appears amongst what looks like fairly simple and plain clothing being worn during the day. The glow in the shoes is also fun, makes it look like some rave gumboots. Now that I’m looking closer at your piece – are those shoes crafted out of the cyberpunk leggings and the dessert maid café shoes? Cause I definitely didn’t realise that when you first submitted it. I want them in game ❤_<3 ALSO, I only just noticed the earring. Your look keeps surprising me! Love that :)

As a silhouette, I’ve seen this sort of thing before, when these wings first came out they were particularly prominent in short term games, but even in S1 of Fresh Faces we have quite a number of submissions with them. If you’re using them I feel like you’ve mgot to really wow me and create something different. Unfortunately I don’t think you really achieved that with this outfit. I will say, I like how the glow interacts on the headpieces.

This is a much more street side of you which is interesting. I said glow and you said, ok, I’ll make something I like then we will highlight parts from there. Not a bad approach honestly. I love how the highlights you chose were the stars on the vest rather than the actual colours of the vest itself. It makes for something very visually stunning without overwhelming the viewer with a fully lit up look which would lack the same emphasis. In terms of styling, I’m not sure you needed as much with your accessories. The sunnies/headband just don’t add much to your look for me.

This feels so very Bauhaus, yet so modern once we fade into that night time glow look. I love the concept behind this look – the new York city skyline. It is clever and edited to give the right impact without adding a million and one different elements to distract the viewer. This is a great example of how much can be achieved with a clear vision and a good editing eye. Well done.

The visual impact of these fireworks lighting up when transitioning into night is kinda amazing, and the way you have merged the jacket scarf and celestial dress together so it looks almost seamless, you have created a new dress with the base skirt adding the final layer. It looks seamless and aside from the scarf, it reads as if it was designed to be like that, rather than separates. It think your editing has also paid off in your decision to not have the pink earring glow. It would have taken away from the visual impact of the piece. Well done.

I know you were aiming for something that was fashionable both day and night, but I think for me the red glow in contrast with the blue night overlay creates something that I'm not relating to as well as the day outfit. The day outfit I think is quite smart, and detailed despite the simplicity of presentingaa jacket and pants combo. Once we transition into the night however I can't shake the Seargent Pepper vibe. Perhaps if it was styled differently or the colours were something else it wouldn't be as strong of a connection for me. I do like the play with the lines within the glow however. It feels very methodical and planned and creates a strong and simple graphic..

Task 7 Rankings
This was a fun task. I hope you all had fun, cause I did. :)
The winner of this weeks task is Filip. Your decisions to make something that 'revealed' in the black light and the design of your fancy shoes are what have put you here.
Let me make this clear to everyone else; this win is not coming his way because he complained in the server that his hard work is not recognised. It is simply what I believe scored the highest this week across my three judging categories: Hitting the brief, Innovation, and how well it holds up as a fashion outfit (comparatively to everyone else of course).
Unfortunately we will be saying goodbye to Peyton. You have had a great run this season, but this look failed to wow me amongst a collection of other strong designs. I hope to see you continue to participate in the future.
