Peeta

When I look at this, I see a unique shape. Although it's something I haven't seen before, I don't know how I feel about it. Maybe it's the colors? However, I see where you were going with the silhouette itself and I will say I can't stop looking at it, it's gorgeous. Mirroring the collar was a smart decision because it gave an unexpected shape. My only critiques are the hair color, the styling of the hair, and the colors of the outfit. The color of the hair could've been lighter... contrast OR since the outfit is heavy, there should simply be no hairstyle. A bald look with this garment would've been stellar. All in all, great look. I will say, THAT is my favorite pose of the week and I wish you could see me clap about it because I have. It's giving... "if you can't love yourself, how are you going to love somebody else" vibes and I'm here for it.

What I find really interesting about this look is the volume in the skirt. It feels like a proper ball gown and doing this taking a pre-established full dress can be difficult. Your red and orange contrast is bold and I'm living for it - I particularly love the blending on the collar feature. I do wish that the edges of your gown matched the black underskirt however instead of your hair. I love me some blue hair, but not everything has to be matchy-matchy.

You went with a bold choice of choosing an unconventional angle for this task, and considering the brief was to design a front or back look, submitting on an angle to be mirrored was definitely a risk, however one I believe paid off. The side you chose to mirror incorporates this really interesting hand holding element into the piece which I never would have considered and is a unique aspect only provided by the way this task was laid out.

Perfect Symmetry

While perfect symmetry may be a beauty myth when it comes to the face, it's appeal in clothing can create unique patterns and silhouettes which can breathe new life into a set of clothes.

For this task, designers were tasked with creating half a look, which was then mirrored vertically using editing techniques to the other side to showcase new and interesting ways to interpret their clothing materials.

There is something playfully juvenile about this outfit, without crossing over to being too youthful. This makes me think of 90's style streetwear with bold colours and prints. I love that you used the numbers to bring an interesting new element to the design. The mirror also allowed your sleeves to have a unity to them instead of a mismatched colour moment that this top usually brings.

I don't really have anything to specifically fault about this look, but I'm just left wishing there was something more.

18/30

Peeta

I will start by saying that many designers use the black shade with pops of color in their outfits but incorporating a grey shade instead with the pop of color was a different yet great approach. Though I wish the hat didn't have that headpiece wrapped around it because it wasn't needed. The colors of the sweater are striking and the collar is appealing. The square shape on the chest reminds me of squid game, it's a unique sign. I personally love the plaid shirts and it made the outfit better. The shoes are ok. As a whole, the outfit is great. But I can't stress enough how much I hate the grey skin. One other designer may love using it, but please don't use it moving forward. Keep your head up in this game, you're doing just fine.

Side-note: I rated you a "10" for commerciality because I can see many wearing this, it looks comfortable.

This look is a lot. There is SO MUCH going on here and I feel you could have benefited from being more editorial in your approach.

Your mirroring is solely related to the head area, and while I thought your concept to mirror the head on a side angle was interesting, it feels as though you wanted to not have to think too hard about the mirror concept beyond here.

I will say the blues and teals are a nice colour scheme, but the sheer amount of elements fighting each other for the spotlight is just overwhelming.

There are a lot of textures in this outfit.  I will say that the outfit from the neck down is very detailed. Therefore, from the neck up, none of that was needed. Had you been bald, it would've brought the whole look together. Also, I would've picked a different shoe although you did show legs which is great. In general, an outfit that shows some skin is my favorite aside from back outfits. I'm glad you didn't put a long skirt because it would've made the look worse. My only HUGE critique is that, I had to look more than twice at this outfit because... I don't see much that was mirrored and that is what the task entails.

This outfit is clean and I love deep purple scarf coming down over the whole dress alongside your belt detailings. While Peeta hated your earrings in your original draft, I think they actually helped bring the shoes into this outfit with a complimentary pink tone. Without it, the shoes really do stand out in a way that makes them feel like more of an afterthought.

Peeta

This outfit is really good. It's clean and simple. The structure of it is polished. The details are there and I am glad you didn't accessorize here because it wasn't needed. You've listened to my critiques for others last week about the contrast of color from hair to outfit and vice versa which is a plus. The colors of the garment are well thought out. I love how it looks like two belts gripped around the scarfs giving it shape. The only thing I would change are the shoes. Great work.

I honestly think you have had the best use of extra advice this week. Planning to submit a completely different look to your draft can be risky, and by taking the extra advice you were able to ensure you kept on track with a strong look even if it was as simple as going back to your first instinct. While you lost one confidence point, you gained so much more in terms of the outfit you submitted.

This look is smart, and eye catching in so many ways. I absolutely love the jacket and how it seems to have blue panelling sewn into the garment to break up what would otherwise be a boring grey suit jacket.

In Filip's longterm, you really showcasd your knowledge and understanding of pattern and its great to see it on display once again here. The bold diagonal patterns really elevate this look into something quick is not only eye catching, but also editorial.

I also love that this look could work for any gender. It really shows the diversity in your design style.

I was in love with this outfit the first time I saw it. Let's start with the hair. It's very unique and the contrast from the hair to the outfit works here. So kudos to you for applying what you've learned so far. The jacket is chef's kiss. Adding it to this well constructed dress gave it an edgy feel, and I like edgy. The detailing of the dress looks like an illusion. It's like staring into a kaleidoscope. The pop of blue was nice and the shoes worked here. The burgundy with the black and white is an amazing color combination. One word to sum this up, fashion.

I really like the fringe patterning in this look. With the mirroring element, it feels like a fresh on something that has been visited many times before. This is the best use of shoes I've seen this week, as the laces reference the straight lines seen in the fringe, without overpowering it.

I'm torn on the arms of your outfit however. On the one hand, I love the innovation of the oversized arms, but I feel they brought your look down overall as it makes the design feel a little heavy, especially with the only skin we really see besides the face being a flash of belly.

The hair is cute, and the pigtail bows work, but I feel the clips in addition to them was too much.

19/30

[10] - [7] - [6]

Peeta

I will start by saying that the color combination of this look is amazing. Incorporating orange with that shade of blue was a smart choice because it blends in with this background. I usually say not to over-accessorize but it works here. I love the belt meshed with the bottom of that skirt because it looks like train tracks. The shape of the outfit is unique. A few critiques to keep in mind.. with an outfit like this, the hair should be less because the outfit is more. The outfit is swallowing the neck area. Also, I would have changed the shoe to give your legs a show. Overall, this outfit catches the eye. A great leg-up from last week.

I've been sitting on this outfit for a while. I really like it, but at the same time I can't help but see a modern day Sailor Moon uniform. That's not to say I find it costumey, but it pulls on some of the stylistic elements you would see in an anime, and the mirrored bangs really hit that connection home.

I love what you have done with the scarf to create a vest of sorts, tied together with a belt. This feels ready to wear and shows some smart decisions behind your design process.

When I first glanced at this outfit, I thought to myself great.. a cow. But you sure did MOOOOve me in an opposite direction, fashion... not costume. The orange and blue was the sprinkle on top this outfit needed. Now, it gives the look life. Despite the hair looking like the bottom half of the squid hat, it looks really nice here. The bangs are a great addition to this outfit. I love the collar because it's unique and different. The shoes matching the collar was a smart move. Ironic how the "V" shape collar stands for victorious. A job well done.

I love the shirt you have made for this outfit out of the scarf and belt. It feels modern and clean in a way that excited me. The risk with using the sparkle effect on fuusio is of course that you will end up going too far with the sheer/nudity element. It's smart to have the skin showing since you covered up the arms, but I wish we had seen more of the arms and a pair of shorts or something instead. The stars by themselves are beautiful, but unlike your scarf decision, I don't feel that the sparkle dress and kimono combo was an innovative approach for this task.

I love that the hair blends in with the coat making it look like a hoodie made out of wool. The chest area looks like piano keys and the robe looks nice. The look could've been done without those shoes and possibly use another shoe. The presentation as a whole is visually appealing. However, my only critiques are that you could've used a pop of color to bring the outfit more to life AND your coochie is showing. Had you covered it up, the outfit would've been much better. On this runway, Lisa looking not so polite but rather naughty. Next time, be a lady. Other than that, great work. :D

On first look, all I could see was the bright neon green contrasting with the dark blue. As a graphic designer, this colour choice is absolutely the last thing I ever would have chosen, but hey, I'm usually sitting there designing documents which need to meet certain visual impairment guidelines and this would never pass that test.

Thankfully, when designing clothes you don't have to adhere to those standards. The simple striped patterns with a minimalistic colour set make me think of flag design. One of he most important things with flags is creating something that is easily visually identifiable, yet minimalistic, and I think this is something you have achieved in your look.

The structure of the pieces that make up the look are also really interesting and innovative. If it was a different colour set, I honestly think I would have fallen in love instantly.

This is by far my favorite look of the week. Some may disagree, but oh well.  Anyway, I love an outfit that shows a bit of skin especially from the back side. The patterns and structure of this entire outfit is extraordinary and I'm so glad you submitted this. When I first saw this displayed in front of my eyes, I fell in love and I can't stop looking at it. The colors are very bright and youthful. I love the cut in the middle. I would have mentioned that the headpiece wasn't needed but from the back it works fine because it isn't too much. Say no more. This is top toot of the week for me.

I'm saddened to say that my favourite mirrored element here is the goth piercings on the face. I feel like there was a lot of potential here that just fell short. The head piece could have used some more refinement - as it stands it feels like there is a piece missing in the middle from an elaborate head piece that could have been exquisite.

I was also really excited by the way your first draft mirrored, so it's a shame to see you had taken out some of the best elements from the original look and left it with an outfit that looks lost. The top half screams gothic, while the actual clothes themselves look like something a lot more casual.

My advice coming out of this task is to trust your gut. When you asked for advice you knew which elements Peeta would have dragged you for, and that is a talent in itself. Over time you will learn to edit and pare back your ideas to create the best outfits possible.

Initially, when I first seen this outfit, I said to myself.. "why does she look like she's sick and about to throw up" and now I can't get that image out of my head. Maybe it's the pose and eye makeup? Luckily I'm a forgiving person.. so I can look passed that. Collectively, the top and bottom don't mesh well. It looks like they belong with separate outfits. The colors of the outfit slightly work together. I just wish the blue was more neon or brighter to make it pop out at the viewer. The hair choice was a choice. The feathers on the head could've been replaced with something else. Though I will say the structure of the look is nice and the texture of the sleeves are appealing to look at. Overall, this look is middle of the road for me. You were one of my favorites last week, what happened this week?

You've picked elements that usually I would be all for. Some classic emo checkerd pants, chains, and even the belt are a perfect combination for a great street style look, but in terms of this mirroring task, the outfit feels like it is lacking. I will say the colours are a beautiful blend which can be difficult to do with that neon vest you've chosen, but so worth it when you get it right.

Marq, I see what you did with this outfit. You've made it minimal in terms of mirroring items. But I needed more. The colors are bright and wonderful to see. I just wanted more because the whole look isn't "wowing" me. The structure is beautiful and I'm a sucker for the checkered pants. The vest is giving me construction vibes and believe me, I have experience in construction so that has a place in my heart. You didn't over-accessorize which is good but like I said I just wanted more. The difference between yours and Antheia-Ceres' looks are that you can clearly see what's mirrored in yours whereas for hers, it's hard for people to see what was actually mirrored. The outfit is not bad, just wanted more. I know you can do better and you will. Just believe in yourself.

This look is the sort of thing I was hoping for in this mirror challenge. something fun and whimsical that couldn't be achieved without the medium presented by the task.

I love the extravagance of the shirt, it's oversized sleeves and feathered collar are just to die for, it honestly looks like it's jumping out of the screen. Using the kilt to separate an item that is traditionally forced to be a dress was clever. The colour pallete is probably not my choice of tea, but the brew itself is still superb.

This is one of my favorites this week. The overall structure of this look is amazing. The puffy shoulders and collar gives this look power. The detailing on the chest and mid-section is fun. Again, much like Nicro's look this week, I see a kaleidoscope. I can't look away because the wave is mesmerizing. The bottom half is great. I LOVE the color combination. It gives royalty and richness. However, I see you stole Harry's wig and dyed the color. But don't worry, I will look passed that :P. That hair is nice and so is the color. Overall, nice work this week!

This look has grown on me over the week. It makes me think of the early 2000's where we saw the shirts and jeans combo worn on the runway, but in a cleaner, and more fresh way. The chains have really helped elevate this look from falling into the trap of being dated.

I still feel the green eye makeup didn't quite match the rest of your look, and the cross earrings were a bit too much, but the look works.

I'm relieved that this is an upgrade from last week's submission. One thing I can say about this look, is that the chains make me happy. I don't see designers using it enough and the fact that you wrapped it around your body is nice. The collar is something I've used before a few times and I love it. The earrings work here because even though there are chains around, the outfit behind it is not all over the place. It's simple and clean. The hair is amazing. Speaking of hair, I'm a sucker for slick back hair and it works here. My only critiques are I would have used a different shoe and I wish you used bright and youthful colors this week like a kaleidoscope effect. It would've made the look even better. Again, nice upgrade from last week.

What I love about this outfit is the necklace detailing at the top. It feels fresh and refined. Unfortunately I think you chose to mirror the wrong side. The way this mirror has played out instead of wearing an elegant coat, it looks more like a cape and the shirt is bulky. Overall, the outfit doesn't sing to me

Azli, azli, azli.. I wish I can say the same as last week.. and give you a perfect score but I can't. Immediately, when I see this whole look.. I think "why didn't she use blonde?" because you know what I'm about to say... contrast. The hair was meant to be hair but instead it looks like a hoodie because it's too dark and it blends with the outfit. I wish I could've seen the slick back hair. The outfit itself isn't bad.. it just needed to pop more. The necklace area is really nice and constructed well. It's almost the same silhouette as Chan's but this one's slightly elevated. My only critiques are the hair color, the color of the outfit, and the overall shape. Also, I wish you mirrored more things. All in all, this is a nice look, but not amazing.. and I know you can deliver. With that being said, deliver me some filet mignon, not steak on a Philly cheese sandwich.

TASK TWO VERDICT

This was a really hard task to judge. We had a lot of disagreements behind the scenes and spent a significant amount of time pitching the case to each other for every one of you. At the end of the day though, we had both hoped for more in this task overall. Your looks are smart, but the brief left you all the potential to do so much more. if you want to get ahead, you best be prepared to bring your A-game, cruising along in the middle isn't going to get you a win, regardless of how confident you are.  - Peeta & Elysse

Winners!!

Congratulations to both Nicrobbo95 and doglover53 - we felt you both encapsulated the brief to a tee and had some captivating looks with two very different approaches.

Bottom two

Antheia, we feel that you could have avoided some of the mistakes you made by simply asking for your free feedback. Chan, we felt that your look needed more editing and could have been elevated more.

Conclusion

We were late with the panel because we were trying to figure out who to eliminate.  This was a conceptual task like this can be a difficult hurdle for people to wrap their head around, making it too early to use track record as a tie breaker to send someone home.

Unexpected news: While Peeta and I were deliberating and coming up with a conclusion between Ash and Chan due to the tie breaker, Chan would’ve been sent home this week had Ash not sent a judge two looks prior to submission because she changed her mind to mirror one over the other. This caused her to lose a point in confidence score giving her a possible 9 instead of a 10.

With a claim that an additional submission was accidental, we deliberated over time stamps, and the clarifications on the rules that were discussed during the week and more. This is serious business. We concluded that the confidence score of 9 for Ash was in fact warranted as it is the same standard we have held all the other players to during the comp, therefore if Ash did not submit the extra look, accidentally or not, Chan would’ve been sent packing...

But by the grace of the Habbo Gods, she has been spared to live yet another week. After a few hours of back and forth we have come to the conclusion, that no one will be going home this week, instead,
next week will be a double elimination.

This task was a place for more conceptual designs, for pushing the boundaries and for playing with elements you will never get to use in a traditional short term game. Next week however will test your basic skills. This is your second chance. Make it count.
