Improving on Peeta's Week 1 look

Designers were asked to create two looks to demonstrate their ability and understanding of collections.

For their first look, designers had to select an outfit from any designer who had been eliminated from the competition and improve the design. The outfit did not need to be a bottom placing look in any week and needed to consider the theme that was given during the week the look was originally submitted.

For their second look, designers were asked to choose any outfit that received a top score during one of the weeks and create a second look that would work cohesively alongside it as a mini two piece collection. The look did not have to consider the theme that was given during the week the winning look was submitted.

Look 1: Improvement

The dual tone braid in the hair is what keeps me coming back to this look. it is enchanting, innovative and adds a layer of complexity to this design. Given you rarely stray from the basic bowl cut for your models, it is nice to see what you can create when you push yourself to think outside the box. While your outfit has a lot less white compared to the original (and all other looks for that week), I appreciate that the red is used as a base layer with the lighter colours compiled on top as it doesn't overwhelm the look. While your accessories have a bit more flow to them compared to Joel's original design I think you still kept true to the cubism aspect of his outfit. I see this look as both true to your style and pushing you out of your comfort zone. The result is a really functional piece of art. Well done.

Look 2: Collection

This look is definitely a bit more street wear than what i'm used to seeing from you, but it works well. I love that you have this almost grunge like aesthietic while still connecting to the flowyness of Joel's original design. Connecting to Joels sleeves with the kimono was a wise choice as it creates unity, while also continuing the story with your red splatters. It also does well at not allowing the red pants to overpower the rest of the look. You have such a good eye for deciding where colours should be placed so as not to overwhelm the viewer and this really shines through here.

Look 1: Improvement

Ashlyn, I like what I see here although your second look is stronger than this one. There are elements to this look that I do enjoy though. The braid combination from the hair meshed with the headband is a clever idea which was executed flawlessly with the touch of the earring. I like the scarf mixed with the vest. You have a good eye for putting things together. For this particular look, I wish the clothing choices underneath the vest and scarf were different. If you showed more skin in the back with a different pair of pants or a skirt, it would've been more elevated to the next level.

Look 2: Collection

This second look is a masterpiece. I love this outfit so much from head to toe. This is amazing. The hat is really detailed and nice to look at. Yes, that robe is used heavily throughout project runway seasons but I don't care, it works extremely well here. You've also used the mushed pomegranate in a different way than he did. For me, what makes this look come together is that pose from the head to the side. I see you've taken notes from Harry's pose and it served you well here. You can clearly see collection when placing your outfit beside Joel's pomegranate look. The colors are there which are important. Great job this week.

Look 1: Improvement

You gave yourself a difficult job, trying to improve a look (at least from my perspective) given I rated the original so highly. While some looks had feedback which offered a blueprint on how to improve, this one did not have a whole lot to respond to, so choosing this design was a risk in a sense. The way you have layered your dragonfly wings and fairy dress cap sleeves is interesting, but I think the blue and black body belt and shoes are what keeps this look tied together. Had you not used the belt, the dress would look less convincing, and the combination of the shoes and belt link your design to the original look or the chair given you have strayed so far from the blue/black/white colours Marq originally used. While I really do adore the clothing itself, the styling of the head is not my favourite. The red earrings and cheek blush don't pari with the rest of the outfit in my eyes and I feel there could have been a better choice for hair.

Look 2: Collection

This is another look that I am intrigued by - I cannot pick the individual elements that make up the entire design. The attitude shown from Chan's original design however is clearly translated across here into your second look. The standouts in this piece are your chosen pose and your colour choices. The placements of your few colour splashes played such an important role here to tie these pieces together given your biggest reference to the original look is here. What your design lacks however are smaller details, which are littered throughout Chan's original piece. Though your hair matches the original in colour, I do feel as though it overwhelms your model and by cascading down there was a missed opportunity for other accessories to be woven into the design, which could have helped with adding more details. Your design is brilliant but perhaps not the most cohesive collection compared to some of the others showcased this week.

Look 1: Improvement

Harry, I am proud of you and your accomplishments each season you participate in. You always bring a new freshness to your designs. I feel as if this first look is stronger than your second. When I first had seen these wings, I said to myself... he kept the wings? Did he not learn what happened to another designer being read in a different season? I wish you didn't use the wings because it blocks your wonderful design underneath that I can see barely see although I do see the approach you were trying to take. It just didn't fully land. Good thing you included the middle sash because without it, it wouldn't work well. I'm glad you used that icicle dress as well because it's rarely used but you've managed to pull it off well with the shoulder detailing and spike on the bottom but was it enough? My favorite part about this look is the pose with that one hand in air and the other behind the wing. However, the only things I would remove from this look are the wings and the red earrings. I don't feel as if they were needed. Overall, nice presentation.

Look 2: Collection

For this second look, I feel like you've taken a tough direction. The choice to use a black-light look as a collection is harder to put together than a regular look. I appreciate you taking something with so much detail and making this look more subtle. I just wish you had a few more details to help balance Chan's look because after all, this portion of the task is to make a collection piece. I will say though, the hair is so cool to look at. That pose always looked weird to me with that exorcist vibe but it works here. I know I've mentioned in the feedback that I didn't prefer that pose but the more I look at it, I've changed my mind. This look was missing more color to bring it more to life. Nonetheless, this look is a great look, I just wanted more umph.

Look 1: Improvement

This design is Hollywood glam at its finest. To take a look and change the colours completely without losing the essence of the original design is a difficult task, but Rachel, you have done it! The decision to keep that long train shape and use a similar hair cut was smart because it gives us that direct link to the original dress while still leaving room to make the design your own. While you changed the colours up, I am pleased to see that you kept the dark to light tone ratios similar, this again helps link it to the original design. I also see the feathery elements repurposed into the fluffy sleeves upon the dress. While this look has distinct ties to Lobsters original, I can see your mark unmistakably translated into your submission, creating something within the same parameters but elevating it into the next level. You found a great balance here. Well done.

Look 2: Collection

The punk design style may not be your go to approach, but you could have fooled me with this submission! This model alongside your clothing design is just oozing attitude~ Despite having no colour in the outfit I am somewhat loving the choice of styling for the models hair and makeup. Though the colour schemes could be used to create a reference to the famed golden arches, I think yellow/gold is just subtle enough to avoid this. There is a lot happening with your shirt area. Originally your corset was styled to be the area of focus here however your jacket change pulls the attention which leaves it a little cluttered. In contrast the simplicity of the skirt against the jacket works really nicely.

Look 1: Improvement

Rachel, when I had first seen Elobstabeth's gown look, I thought it was great. You've improved it. The color contrast from the ginger hair to the blue gown is put together flawlessly. That side pose with that hairstyle is a plus. That cheekbone is rare in this project runway community and I love looking at it. It's definitely a striking feature. The gown itself is slightly elevated. The flowy-ness on the top with the flat solid dress is a flattering combination. I love the scribbled dark blue belt in middle. The only thing I would say is that I wish the dress was slightly different in terms of silhouette from the waist down and I wish there were a bit more layers... other than that, great look!

Look 2: Collection

This second look is incredible. The reason why I say this is because I know this is not your style, so it was nice to see you showcase something way out of your comfort zone. I'm glad you presented something different. When I look at this outfit, there is cohesiveness with Anne's zipper look. The use of red hair to contrast the look was a smart idea. I love the tornado looking zippers from the chest to the zipper lining on the bottom of your skirt. This is probably my favorite look you've ever created this entire competition. So kudos to you for presenting something out of your wheelhouse. Nice work!

Anne, please forgive us for shoehorning your submission into the draft. While this look isn't perfect, your final submission simply was not it - it took all the things we loved about the original design (as stated in the original feedback from week 3) and got rid of them. For that reason we have submitted your draft on your behalf.

I love the top you chose to use for this outfit - it has similarities to the feather cowl without it being so overpowering across the outfit. As a whole your silhouette is nice. It showcases the dress and its layers well which is great considering showcasing the skirt from this straight on angle can be a little jarring. Where I stumble is the dark purple tones used in the middle. While this is a match to how lobster originally styled the outfit, you would have been best to make that wrap the same colour as your top as this darker tone pulls too much attention away from the rest of the design. The straps alone in this darker colour would have been enough. I am also not in love with the hair choice, but can see where you drew inspiration from for it.

Look 2: Collection

This look is stunning - and to get this outfit to this state without feedback is a testament to how you think about collections. What I love here is that you have taken the key elements from Nicole's original outfit - the black and white tones, the diagonal slashes, and the pulled back hair - and recreated them in a style which not only matches your approach to design, but also works so well alongside the look submitted by nicro.  It is simple, striking and bold, while still refined and elegant. There are even parts of this dress that I am left wondering how you structured them - and we all know I love to be kept guessing as to how a design has been put together. You should be VERY proud of what you have created here. It is a work of art.

Look 1: Improvement

Anne, for me personally... this first look is an upgrade from your initial submission. We had to choose this one instead because the other one was not it I'm sorry to say. On the bright side, I'm a sucker for a nice slick back hair and with this particular gown, it works. I love the silhouette shape. I like the chest design and detailing of the structure of that dark purple section. This gown seems like a mermaid gown spreading at the bottom. The frontal pose works with this particular look because of the slick back hair and overall structure of it. The only thing I would have to say is that I wish it was more elevated. Also, I wish you chose a different color rather than sticking with the same exact two-tone colors Elobstabeth chose for her gown. Although this look is different in terms of design, it looks a bit similar to her outfit.

Look 2: Collection

This second look, I feel is stronger than your first. It screams not only fashion but the word "cohesive" and that was the part of this task... to serve us a collection piece of another designer's top look and you fulfilled that. I love the wavy hair because it meshes well with this outfit. The zebra-like stripes from the neck to the left side of the vest-sash is striking. The idea of putting a solid shade/color on the opposite side where the stripes are was a smart one. It gave this look contrast. I also love the boots with this outfit. There are edgy details on it which brings this look to life for me. When I see this beside Nicole's gown, there is a clear connection. That was the point of half of this task and I'm glad you understood that part of the assignment. Nice job!

Look 1: Improvement

I am obsessed with this look. Instead of taking a more red-heavy approach to the outfit as I had originally suggested in the week 3 feedback, you have instead balanced out the colours into a more 50/50 ratio and it works wonders. The design screams drama and elegance and sophistication, all while very clearly referencing and building upon Jared's original vision. One of the areas Peeta and I have constantly clocked submissions on throughout the competition is the need for 'breathing space' amongst the fabric - a splash of skin if you will - and so I am so excited by the way the cape sleeves have manifested with a shoulder cut so you have that break from the overwhelming amount of fabric. This look is brilliant. Well done.

Look 2: Collection

Chan you are always looking to push the boundaries and not play it safe and I commend this. Harry's look was one of the most simplistic yet intriguing submissions of the season which makes it a difficult one to take on. Let's start at the top. This is the first time I've seen anyone make this hair look good and i am loving it. The makeup is subtle which doesn't take away from the outfit and your use of gold and white thought your accessories helps break up the dark blue colour within the design. When submitting you explained that you took inspiration from the split in the middle of the design from harry, and I think your approach to re-imagining this was clever. Your look is gorgeous but I do wonder if it is the most convincing collection piece overall given harry uses a completely different colour set (bar the tiniest splash of blue on the sunnies).

Chan, I love this first look. This is probably my favorite outfit of the week. When I see this outfit, I wouldn't think that you've designed this. That's how much you've grown from the beginning of this competition until now. It's like that amazing that I can't take my eyes off of it. From the hair and flower detail, to the flowy-ness from each direction. The flower petal dress flowing to the left as the white cape and tail flowing to the right. The tail looks like an addition to the cape so good attention to detail. That shoulder showing is hot. The detailed white dress underneath adding more layers makes this outfit so incredible and the red shoes giving this look contrast. I am very happy with this outfit. Wonderful display this week.

Look 2: Collection

This second look is a nice look. I'm glad you took direction well and added more of that print to the look. Without it, the look would've been more bland. Also, there would've been not much correlation and cohesiveness to Harry's print look. I love the dark denim vibes and with that detailed print. It makes the fabric so much better. The accessories are striking and very bling-like which I admire because it shows contrast since the outfit is darker. The lightness brought the look together. If I had to be knit-pick and remove or add something to make the look more elevated as a whole, I would've chosen a different hairstyle and remove that headband, other than that... this look is a great look.

SEMI FINALS VERDICT

What a week, with a REALLY LONG deliberation behind the scenes - honestly, the longest discussion on critiques, ranks, and scores we have had since this long term competition started. Your submissions this week were all great and you all made us look hard at every single design to really make sure we were making the right decision. While it would be great to have all 5 of you in the finals, we don't want to critique 25 outfits in one week (you understand right!). In our decision, we did not judge your entire body of works up until now. Only the submissions for this week were judged (as we have done throughout the entire competition, and will do until the end). This allows us to judge everyone equally based on their growth throughout the competition and what they bring to the current stage we are in. Regardless of placement, you all deserved to be here and you should be proud of what you have achieved to date. - Peeta & Elysse

Winner

Chan - We were amazed by your submissions this week. Based off all the collections presented this week, yours was the clear standout. Your ability to construct and prepare such a collection proves why you've earned the first spot in the finale. It was just that damn good. You have an eye for fashion. Your growth throughout this competition was phenomenal. It's our honour to have you in the finale. Well done!

Elimination

Anne - We can't express enough how happy we are about having you in this competition. You've proven week after week why you deserved to be here. We thank you for your commitment and perseverance. At one point you were about to leave the competition which confused us because of how powerful your designs were and how great you were doing in this competition. We are so glad that you stuck it out until the very end. We wish more designers were like you. Someone who is so committed that quitting is not an option. That shows a lot of strength and commitment. We want you to look back at your journey throughout this competition. It's an amazing journey and your looks throughout will definitely be remembered. We hope to see you in future seasons because ultimately you deserve a redemption, possibly the crown? Unfortunately, this season was not your time.

Harry - We were very blessed to have you participate in this competition. We were aware that you've originally had life plans which would've prevented you from participating. You've mentioned that it got canceled last minute which gave you time to compete this season and let me tell you, we are very glad you've competed. This gave you an opportunity to showcase your talent to not only the up-n-coming designers, but most importantly the world. This will allow them to view, study, and learn from your artwork! Your designs have always been pure art. If there's anyone that deserves a standing ovation, it's you! With all that being said, we are sad to see you depart from us at this stage of the competition. We wish you the best and can't wait to see you again.

While we are sad to see you go so soon, we hope that you continue to work on your outfits and grow, even through this competition.

While you are no longer eligible for the grand prize, you can continue to submit outfits based on the theme after elimination to compete for the Most Improved Designer prize of 100c.

We hope to see you in future short term games inside Habbo, and would happily welcome you back to a future season of Fresh Faces.
